The Performance Evaluation of Logistics Services Rendered by Shipping Industry in Chennai City of Tamil Nadu ? A Case Study

Abstract
The logistics services of shipping industry consist of Transportation Services, Digital Warehousing, Inbound Processes, Warehouse Fulfillment and Outbound Processes. Over the last three decades, the industry has graduated from being cost-focused to offering value-for-money solutions to clients. Logistics play an increasingly important role in a competitive, price sensitive market where cost cutting has to be combined with quality service. Companies find a big difference in CHA charges charged in Tuticorin and the Chennai. The freight forwarders do not provides the main liners (shipping company) schedule to their customers which actually the shippers required for their reference. This schedule helps the companies to tabulate (time) its production. Many freight forwarders do not provide the tracking facilities ? the companies prefer for that. Some companies are not informed about the goods being delivered by their freight forwarders. Fixed tariff is lacking for the shipment to certain ports and same volume done regularly. The ocean freight changes during each time of shipment.
