A Distributed Canny Edge Detection and its FPGA Implementation

Abstract:

Edge detection is one of the basic operation carried out in many image processing algorithms. The canny edge detection algorithm is most widely used algorithm for edge detection process. In this paper, canny edge detection in distributed manner is presented which reduces memory requirements, latency and improves edge detection function. Furthermore, design and pipelined implementation of our proposed algorithm is also presented in this paper. Simulation results are also given to show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.
