Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based Algorithm for the Optimal Location and Setting of FACTS Devices to Improve Voltage Stability

Abstract:

In the current scenario, power systems, under heavily loaded circumstances, are at exceedingly high risks of probable line outage and resultant voltage instability complication. Real power loss and voltage deviation minimization are consistent indicators of voltage security of power system networks. Here, a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based algorithm is proposed for the optimal location and setting of FACTS devices for the purpose of improving voltage stability. PSO technique completely optimizes the location and setting of SVC, which is utilized in this paper as FACTS device. The effectiveness of this scheme has been tested in IEEE-14 Bus standard test system.
