Abstract:

Though, Indian constitution and special laws guarantee gender equality, dignity, and safety, the gender based crimes at educational Institutions, workplaces and other public places are rampant against the women in India. In fact, a major portion of their suffering remains unexplored as Dark figures of Victimization. In this line, Eve ?teasing is one of the prevailing silent forms of crime against women as it is not reported proportionately to its real quantum. Indian Penal Code deals eve-teasing cases through its sections 354 and 509 which show an increase of 13.05 percent in assault or criminal force against woman with intent to outrage her modesty, and 18.9 percent decrease in incidents of Insulting modesty of woman, respectively, from the year 2015 to 2016. The number of incidents of assault or criminal force against woman with intent to outrage her modesty is persistently increasing between year to year from 2013. Hence, the authors intended to study this phenomenon. The present study was an attempt to find the magnitude, forms, impacts and other aspects related to eve-teasing victimization among 160 students of Higher education from two major cities of Rajasthan namely Jaipur and Jodhpur, through an empirical study. The study samples were chosen using Multi stage sampling, and the primary data responses obtained using a structured Interview Schedule.
