Constitutional Provisions With Regard To Women Empowerment in India: A Conceptual Study

Abstract:

The principle of gender equality is enshrined in the Indian Constitution in its Preamble, Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties and Directive Principles of State Policy. The Constitution not only grants equality to women, but also empowers the state to adopt measures of positive discrimination in favour of women. Empowerment of women means developing them as more aware individuals, who are politically active, economically productive and independent and are able to make intelligent discussion in the matters that affect them. The present paper is an attempt to analyze the status of women empowerment in India and the relevant provision provided in the Constitution of India to protect the women. The paper analyses about the contribution made by the Indian Judiciary for the protection of women. The researcher have an inference that gender injustice still prevails in our society mostly in rural areas and each girl is treated equally first in her family then our society. The present conceptual chapter addresses the aforesaid aspects through a holistic review.
